Pond Land Bee
Session 1.10
June 14 – July 4, 2010
All Mildred's Land- ninety-two+ acres- is a laboratory for far-reaching explorations into discreet landscape interventions. As a site Mildred's Lane is rich in resources such as streams, stone quarry, woodland fields and gardens. Extensively, this session will include a diverse gathering of cultural professionals; Scientists, Architects, Artists, Farmers, Builders, Naturalists, Writers and Other Environmental Professionals, who will lead workshops, lectures and demonstrations. Some of the topics we will investigate are beekeeping, pond design, surveying, and eco-activism.
Radical Apiary is a new project that we will begin in the early part of this session. Artists, Scientists, Local beekeepers and other professionals will discourse and build a bee yard in Mildred's Garden that will be a permanent experiment in collaboration with a most revered species, the Honey Bee.
Ongoing projects such as The North Room Survey , Spring House, and Pond House Projects which endeavor to integrate systems of landscape design , aqua-cultural dwelling, and the notion of earthworks will allow participants to build on the research and activities of last years Mildred' s Lane seminars. In addition, the collective will participate in an environmental teach-in with the Damascus Citizens.org to learn about to focus on the topical environmental threats to the Catskills, The Poconos and Upper Delaware recreation Area.
All this will all culminate in the continued development of campsites, sustainable harvesting and processing of wild foods; algorithmic food experiments; food, plant and animal identification and the joyous exchange of ideas around the production of contemporary visual art.
