Opus Magnum: Theatrum Chemicum Britannicum & The Philosophick Childe
(The Great Work: The Chemical Theatre of Britain)
The Alchemist’s Shack
Session 3.09
July 20 – August 8, 2009
This project will entail building a vernacular structure and the installation of a work that explores the relationship between a poetic language used in alchemical literature and that of contemporary discourses in science and cultural practices. This Project will provide an opportunity to extend contemporary debates into the relationship between art and science as human inquiry and the construction of epistemological structures on an international stage between Lancaster, England (where Williams lives and teaches) and rural Pennsylvania. It also offers a critical context to discourse about institutions, belief and curiosity through collecting and tableaux that will emerge during this session.
