Blearing (the) Selvages
Mildred’s Lane Inc. Presents
WORKSHOP as EXHIBITION:
Blearing (the) Selvages
Opening Reception
Friday 5pm, August 21
As part of Ecology & Cloth episodes, The Mildred Complex(ity) Project Space is filled with cloth and clothing stored away in trunks for decades. Rather than support an endless, polluting textile trade, this installation is alive in an experimental process of adaptive reuse — rearranging, repairing, and refurbishing what already exists in the world. The space is draped in stained toiles, muslins, trims, and antique textiles – regenerated becomings.
The art of using what is at hand is Mildred’s Lane’s featured system aesthetics: thinking and doing, with art and ecology as the foremost philosophy and practice in creative domesticity.
Blearing (the) Selvages marks a transition — a shapeshifting from seasonal projects on site at Mildred’s Lane, Pennsylvania, into immersive workshop experiences in the Project Space and Annex this fall/winter 2026.
The installation is by J. Morgan Puett, Ambassador of Entanglement Emeritus, regenerating critical cloth practices — with Mildred’s Lane Workstyles Bureau Fellows Lars Wahlsten and Nellie Alexandre, who are supported by a grant from the Annenberg Foundation.
Workshop as Exhibition is partially supported by the DVAA Regranting Program and the Sullivan County Heritage Council Grants.
